β›… Montour + Panhandle -- so close to West Virginia 🚲 #gopro9 #teal-wolfpak

I biked 30.3 miles today on my 🍡 Green Tea bike.

✨ About this Ride

✨ I was so close to West Virginia on this ride! I have been working on building the endurance to ride from the Ft. Cherry trailhead on the Montour Trail to the Panhandle to Colliers, West Virginia. (This goal was inspired by doing a lot of crossing country borders on foot last year. In 2025, I desire to cross state lines by bike.) I did leg day yesterday and I felt it on this ride. I do feel like I could complete the ride to the WV state line and back if I had to. I’ll take my time building up to doing it comfortably.

⛰️ The elevation change on this ride felt good. I knew from reading about the trail to expect some climbing. The hills were long enough to act as great natural ways for me to notice how much distance I had covered β€” especially on the ride back.

This is my longest ride ever on any bike (so far)! This was essentially an out-and-back ride.

On weekday rides, I usually have a pretty specific plan for my ride. On weekends, I like to be able to ride for as far and as long as I would like. After more than ten miles on the Panhandle Trail, I decided that I would use the next bench I saw as my turnaround point. On this stretch of the trail, benches are not very frequent so I did stop as planned.

I often wonder (and wory) about how isolated areas like this ride’s rest stop can be. During my 10-15 minute break, I saw three cyclicts passing by (two in one direction and one in the other).

🀞 I am hoping to join my first group ride this week so I will be off the bike after this until Wednesday.

πŸ“Ή Video

I put a GoPro in my helmet mount for this ride. I rode from the trailhead over the McDonald Trestle before getting onto the Panhandle Trail. I added this little bit onto my ride because the McDonald Trestle is so beautiful and a lot of fun to ride over.
