Morning on Montour

โœจ About this Ride

What I love most about biking the Montour Trail is all of the cool train stuff. For this ride, I decided to try and make it to the Westland Branch. At Gilmore Junction, one can continue on the Montour Trail or switch to the Westland Branch.

In 2012, the Westland Branchโ€™s rail line was reactivated to support Pennsylvaniaโ€™s shale gas industry. The possibility of biking alongside a train is very exciting to me. (I didnโ€™t see any trains on this ride.)

There was fencing along both sides of the portion of the Westland Branch that I rode on, making for a mildly disappointing experience. I was physically tired by that point so I wound up stopping before I got to the end of the Westland Branch. I do want to go back and ride the Westland Branch in its entirety one day.
